Would it be a good idea to only allow double part language tag teams?
I mean: xx_XX vs xx
All Joomla language files need the double syntax anyway and it is very irritating/difficult to handle files that only have a single language tag style.
So I personally wouldn't want any files from 'Dutch (nl)', but only from 'Dutch (nl_NL)'.
PS: Hope Transifex comes with an option to (dis)allow this on a project/user basis.

Very good point. I think it'll be good to inform our translators about this and setup the teams so that only the "proper" language teams will be created, and only the proper languages will be translated.
I've already notified the Dutch translation teams that we'll be all be working on the nl_NL translations only. For the nl_BE files (should you even need them) we can simply copy the nl_NL language file.

'Dutch (nl)' team should therefor also be deleted. Because Transifex now auto-creates translations for these non-used teams too...
Regarding Belgium, shouldn't all 'jij' be replaced with 'u' or 'gij'? :P

We can copy nl_NL to nl_BE but there are some differences in our use of language. For example "gij" is no longer used in Holland, but is still in use in Belgium?

The differences are minor, guys. ;-) We do use "Gij" but that's only allowed in spoken language. Or when you're writing a medieval language set in the Netherlands. ;)
Honestly, I've never seen - or used - a nl_BE language pack in Joomla! and see no use for them. But if there's problems with us Belgians not understanding the Dutch in the translations I'll make sure to fix it. ;-)

I would like to second this. There is also a team "de" and another "de_DE" causing some confusion...

Very much so in the background! Sorry we should have reported back but it is a work in progress.
Currently we are not accepting either new languages or new people within language teams that are not xx_XX. The two Dutch teams have already been amalgamated. German and Russian still to be done.
There is one exception, ar - but there is a solution for that which will be posted for devs here later.

Yes! It is temporary. Ahmad Alfy (Joomla Dev and one of our Arabic Translators) brought this to our attention:
"One more thing, after lots of discussions and arguments over forum.joomla.org people from the arab countries decided to use ar-AA instead of using (ar-EG, ar-SA, ar-SY ... etc) because the language doesn't really change and the change of the country doesn't affect anything :) So if we could start supporting the Arabic Unitag that would be great :)"
Transifex does not support ar_AA as a default team at the moment but said "it is supported using language mappings in the client: http://help.transifex.net/features/client/#customizing-the-language-mappings."

Ok, I see that the language in the Joomla core installation also uses ar-AA.
But all Arabic translations that have been offered to me (before Transifex) have been ar-SA. So I guess I'll be renaming or duplicating these :S
